In 2009-10, NAPCS collected information regarding whether charter schools provided virtual instruction to students from state departments of education and charter school support organizations.
Non-Virtual: Students attend a brick and mortar school with a teacher providing the majority of instruction.
Virtual: Students receive all instruction online. Students do not attend a brick and mortar school.
Hybrid Virtual: Students attend a brick and mortar school for at least a portion of their instruction. Instruction is split between classroom and online.
Brick & Mortar and Virtual: A portion of students in the school attend the brick and mortar location of the school and receive non-virtual instruction. A separate portion of students opt to only receive instruction through online. (Students receive one or the other, even though it is the same school.)
Brick & Mortar and Hybrid: A portion of students in the school attend the brick and mortar location of the school and receive non-virtual instruction. A separate portion of students have instruction split between brick and mortar and online. (Students receive one or the other, even though it is the same school.)
